Some Wocka-Wocka executives are watching and are pleased. They eventually gravitate towards a vaguely Buzz-Lightyear-ish action figure called Daxx Blastar who’s from the same Star Command universe as Buzz. A group of boys is let in and begins playing with prototype toys. We start in a focus group room for the Wocka-Wocka Toy Company located in their Taiwanese factory. All included concept art was created for some version of this story. This comes from an undated draft written by Jim Herzfeld. Since then, some concept art has been posted online and just last fall a draft from Jim Herzfeld hit the internet.įor more information about the movies Circle 7 was working on, including concept art and links to available screenplays, see the Lost Media Wiki. But when Pixar and Disney reconciled in late 2005/early 2006 everything Circle 7 was working on was canceled and the studio was shut down. Bob Hilgenberg and Rob Muir, who had written the Monster’s Inc sequel that Circle 7 was also working on, were brought on to give it another pass, and concept art was created for the story. His story featured Buzz Lightyear being recalled and sent back to the factory in Taiwan and the rest of the toys trying to rescue him. It was rejected in favor of a script by Jim Herzfeld, a writer who’d done some direct-to-video and TV work for Disney. Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, writers on the Disney animated show Teacher’s Pet, wrote a script about Woody, Buzz and the gang investigating the disappearance of toys from Andy’s grandmother’s attic. They founded a new studio, named Circle 7 for the road it was on, and set them to work on sequels for Finding Nemo, Monster’s Inc, and Toy Story.Ī promotional poster that was shown at Siggraph 2005.ĭisney’s Toy Story 3 went into pre-production in 2004, shortly after Jobs made his announcement. This had a painful side-effect for Pixar: they did not own the rights to any characters created under the original deal so Disney quickly got to work on new movies with Pixar’s most popular characters. As that deal came to its end, Pixar owner Steve Jobs announced that they would not seek a new one with Disney but would instead search for a new partner. It would go on to be released theatrically, but Disney refused to count it under the 6 film deal they had with Pixar, angering the studio. Disney then wanted a quick direct-to-video sequel, but Pixar didn’t like treating it as lesser than the first. At one point meddling by Disney executives threatened to derail the original Toy Story, until the executives pulled back and let Pixar make the movie they wanted. But it makes life hard for Woody who’s just trying to help Forky understand the importance of his kid.The early days of the Disney/Pixar partnership were not easy. “He doesn’t understand the rules of the world, so he doesn’t play by the rules, which really makes the story feel fun and new. “We loved the idea of Forky,” says producer Jonas Rivera. Woody assumes the role of Forky’s keeper, which in the beginning, just means keeping him out of the trash. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him.” But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he’s facing a crisis. “A toy’s purpose is to be there for its child. “The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose,” says Cooley. Unfortunately, every time he tries to get away, someone yanks him back into an adventure he’d rather skip. An actual spork-turned-craft-project, Forky is pretty sure that he doesn’t belong in Bonnie’s room.
